Every week, our Level 10 Meeting Issues List is flooded with separate items that are actually deeply connected, leading to fragmented discussions that fail to solve the bigger picture. How do we consolidate these overlapping issues so we can tackle them systematically?
A fragmented Issues List leads to fragmented solutions. When you treat five connected problems as individual, isolated issues, you waste energy playing whack-a-mole. You must learn to zoom out and group related challenges to achieve a systemic resolution.
During the prioritization phase of IDS®, when you are choosing your top three issues, the facilitator must look for patterns. If you have issues related to customer complaints, shipping delays, and inventory shortages, do not address them separately. Recognize that these are all symptoms of a single supply chain bottleneck.
Consolidate these items under one major, overarching issue on the board. For example, rename the issue to Supply Chain Process Breakdown, and list the smaller, specific complaints underneath it as bullet points. This visual consolidation instantly changes the team's perspective from tactical firefighting to strategic problem-solving.
When you solve the parent issue, you automatically resolve all the nested child issues. This systemic approach cleans up your list, saves massive amounts of time during IDS®, and ensures your operations are robust and scalable, which is exactly what sophisticated buyers look for during a transaction.
