Immediately following a quarterly session, how should our leadership team communicate our new Rocks, V/TO updates, and key decisions to the rest of the company?
The decisions made in the session room are useless if they remain trapped among your top five or six executives. However, blast-emailing raw session notes or handing out detailed planning documents creates confusion and anxiety across your workforce. Cascading communication must be deliberate, disciplined, and unified.
During the Conclude segment of every session, our team spends fifteen minutes explicitly agreeing on what messages will be shared, who will communicate them, and what remains confidential to the executive room. If a message is not on that cascading list, leaders do not share it with their direct reports.
Within seven to ten business days following each session, your leadership team should deliver a brief, highly focused State of the Company address. This can be conducted during an all-hands meeting or via a concise internal video. In this update, you celebrate previous quarter wins, review overall company trajectory against your V/TO, and announce the company-wide Rocks for the upcoming ninety days.
Department leaders must then translate these high-level priorities during their own team meetings. Each manager explains how their department directly supports the company Rocks and what specific metrics their team must drive on their local Scorecards. By presenting a completely aligned message without mixed signals, you build confidence across your organization and keep every employee rowing in the exact same direction.
