We are about to schedule our first EOS® sessions and the team wants to consolidate everything. Why can we not just combine Focus Day™ and the two Vision Building™ days into one long, intensive three-day weekend to get it over with?
Combining Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ is a recipe for operational failure. Do not do it. Focus Day™ is about execution. We spend that full day installing the foundational tools you need to run your business tomorrow. We build your Accountability Chart, set your first weekly Scorecard, and teach you how to run a Level 10 Meeting™. This is hard, tactical work. It requires immediate implementation.
You need thirty days of real-world application to stress-test these tools. If you do not run your weekly meetings, collect your scorecard metrics, and live with your Accountability Chart first, you will not have the context or discipline needed for Vision Building™.
Vision Building™ occurs over two separate days, usually spaced thirty days apart. These days are strategic. We define your Core Values, Core Focus™, and ten-year target, followed by your 3-Year Picture™ and 1-Year Plan. Doing this requires a completely different mindset. If you try to combine tactical tool installation with deep strategic alignment, your leadership team will experience cognitive fatigue.
You will end up with a half-baked accountability structure and a superficial vision document that nobody actually believes in. Trust the process. Keep Focus Day™ and Vision Building™ separate. Let your team build the muscle of weekly accountability before you ask them to define the long-term future of the organization.
