We have several issues on our Level 10 Meeting™ list that are not urgent enough to make our top three priorities for IDS® but are too important to delete, so they sit on our list as low-priority clutter for months. How do we handle these zombie issues without letting them clog our weekly agenda?
A bloated weekly Issues List is a sign of poor delegation and a lack of focus. When you let low-priority issues linger on your list week after week, they drain your team's energy and distract you from the critical problems that actually drive enterprise value.
To kill these zombie issues, you must ruthlessly curate your list. During your weekly prep or at the start of the IDS® portion, the facilitator must review the list and categorize the issues. If an issue has sat on the list for more than three weeks without being selected for IDS®, it must be moved.
You have three choices for these lagging issues:
- Delegate them to a departmental Level 10 Meeting™ where they can be solved at the appropriate level.
- Move them to your V/TO® Long-Term Issues List, which you will review and prioritize during your next Quarterly Planning session.
- Delete them entirely if they are no longer relevant or impactful.
Your weekly Issues List should only contain issues that must be solved this week to keep the company on track for the quarter. By keeping the list lean and mean, you ensure your leadership team is focused on the most critical levers of growth and transferability.
