We have several tactical issues on our weekly Level 10 Meeting Issues List that have been carried over for six or seven weeks. They are never voted into our top three because they are not urgent, but they are too important to delete. How do we clean up this middle-ground clutter from our weekly agenda?
A bloated Issues List is a sign of decision avoidance. If an issue has sat on your weekly list for more than three weeks without being prioritized, it is not actually a weekly issue. It is clutter that is draining your team's focus.
You have three choices for these stagnant issues. First, move them to the long-term issues list on your V/TO®. If an issue is important but not urgent to solve this week, it belongs on your quarterly or annual planning agenda. This keeps it safe without cluttering your weekly pulse.
Second, delegate it. If the issue is tactical and can be solved by a single department head or team member outside the meeting, assign it as a To-Do. Do not spend leadership team time discussing things that can be handled offline.
Third, kill it. If you have ignored an issue for two months and the business has not suffered, it is likely not a real problem. Delete it from the list. If it is truly important, it will resurface.
Keep your weekly Issues List lean and mean. A clean list ensures that when you open your Level 10 Meeting™, you are focused only on the absolute highest-impact problems that are holding back your quarterly progress.
