We are starting to roll out EOS® to our departmental teams, but our supervisors are overwhelmed and think this is just a micro-management tool. How do we get them to embrace the Level 10 Meeting™?
Rolling out EOS® to middle management fails when it is presented as a set of rules to follow. Your department heads and supervisors are already busy, and they will resist anything that feels like extra administrative work.
- To get their buy-in, you must show them how the Level 10 Meeting™ will actually save them time. It is not an extra meeting; it is the meeting that replaces all the unstructured, inefficient meetings they are currently having.
- Start by coaching your leaders on how to run the meeting with their own teams. Show them that by spending ninety minutes once a week in a structured format, they can eliminate the constant interruptions, emails, and drive-by questions that derail their days.
- Give them ownership of the process. Let them build their own departmental scorecards and identify their own rocks.
- Focus on levels of leadership. Do not just rely on your position to mandate the tools. Build permission and production by showing your supervisors how these tools make their daily lives easier and their teams more productive. When they see the tools work, they will become your biggest advocates.
