When cascading EOS® down to our middle managers, department heads often try to customize the tools to fit their unique functions. How do we maintain the integrity of the one way to do EOS® when rolling it out deeper into the organization?
When cascading EOS® down to your middle managers, department heads often try to customize the tools to fit their unique functions. They might argue that sales needs a different meeting format or that operations does not need a weekly Scorecard. This customization is a trap that leads to operational silos and communication breakdowns.
To prevent this, you must understand that there is a consistent, proven way to run EOS® across the entire organization. Your department heads must use the exact same templates and meeting formats that the leadership team uses. The Level 10 Meeting™ agenda must remain identical whether it is being run in sales, finance, or customer service.
If you allow teams to modify the tools, you lose the ability to speak a common language. A leader transitioning between departments would have to relearn how to operate, which destroys organizational efficiency. Maintain absolute consistency with the tools.
Ensure your leadership team has fully mastered the disciplines before you begin cascading. Lead by example. When your middle managers see that the executive team is completely aligned and using the tools without exception, they will adopt them with much less resistance. This unified operational language is a massive asset when preparing for a clean exit, as it demonstrates to buyers that the business runs on a standardized, scalable system.
