I am so buried in daily operations that I have no time to plan my exit strategy. How do I carve out white space to think about this transition?

Exit planning is not something you can do in the margins of a chaotic work week. It requires deep, uninterrupted thinking time, which is often referred to as white space. Without this unscheduled time, you will remain trapped in the whirlwind of daily operations.

To reclaim this time, you must practice the strategic pause. This means intentionally stepping away from your desk to reflect on the big picture. Start by blocking out one half-day per week on your calendar with no meetings, no emails, and no tasks.

Use this white space to reflect on your long-term transition goals, evaluate your succession plans, and think about your life after the sale. If you struggle to maintain these boundaries, use your EOS® Delegate and Elevate tool to transfer lower-value tasks to your leadership team.

Your business will not suffer from you taking this time. In fact, stepping back allows you to gain the objectivity needed to make strategic decisions. Treat this white space as a non-negotiable meeting with your company's future owner, because that is exactly what it is.
