We want to transition to AI-powered operations to prepare for an exit, but our leadership team is overwhelmed with their current Rocks and daily tasks. How do we carve out the capacity for our leadership team to drive these automation initiatives without their core seats suffering?
Transitioning to AI-powered operations is a powerful way to maximize company value before an exit, but it requires focused attention. If your leadership team is already drowning in daily operations, adding automation initiatives will only lead to half-hearted implementation and frustration. You cannot simply pile AI projects on top of their existing workloads.
To make this work, you must use your Accountability Chart to create clear ownership and find capacity. First, look at your quarterly Rocks. Identify which operational tasks can be offloaded, delegated, or delayed to free up time for your leaders. If a leadership team member is tasked with driving an automation initiative, that should be their primary Rock for the quarter.
Second, remember that your leaders do not need to do all the heavy lifting themselves. Their job is to lead, manage, and hold people accountable. They should define the operational problems and let junior team members or external partners build the AI solutions. By delegating the execution, your leadership team can focus on integrating the new tools into your daily processes without neglecting their core leadership responsibilities.
