When our leadership team finishes solving our highest-priority issues with twenty minutes left on the clock, we often waste time discussing minor administrative trivia just to fill the ninety minutes. Is it acceptable to end a Level 10 Meeting early?

The rule of the Level 10 Meeting™ is to start on time, end on time, and never run late. However, stretching a meeting just to burn the remaining minutes on the clock is pure organizational waste.

If your team has genuinely resolved your top three issues during IDS®, take a hard look at the remaining Issues List. If there is another substantive operational or strategic issue on the board, move to it immediately. Ask the room if anyone has a pressing issue that can be defined and solved in the remaining fifteen or twenty minutes.

If the remaining items are minor informational points or if the room has reached cognitive exhaustion after solving two massive, emotionally draining problems, do not invent busywork. Advance straight to Conclude.

Recap the To-Dos created during the session, confirm any Cascading Messages that need to reach the rest of the company, rate the meeting honestly, and adjourn early. Giving your executive team fifteen minutes of their day back to take action on their new To-Dos is far more valuable than sitting around debating administrative trivialities.

With that said, check your motives carefully. Ending early should be the exception, not the rule. If your team consistently finishes in fifty or sixty minutes every single week, you are likely failing to surface the real, uncomfortable elephants in the room during IDS.
