I built this company from the ground up, and while I have put a leadership team in place, I find myself constantly micromanaging their decisions and checking their work. How do I build the necessary trust in my leadership team to truly let go of the day-to-day operations?

Micromanagement is a symptom of low trust, and low trust acts as a tax on your entire organization, slowing down decisions and burning out your best people. If you want to prepare your business for a clean exit, you must prove to buyers that the company can run without you. That requires you to let go of the vine.

To build this trust, you must first ensure you have the right people in the right seats. Use the EOS® People Analyzer™ and GWC™ tool to objectively assess your leadership team. If they share your core values and have the capacity to do their jobs, you must give them the autonomy to execute. Trust is not a blind leap; it is built through consistent accountability and visibility.

Use your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ and your company Scorecard to monitor progress. The Scorecard gives you objective, weekly data on how the business is performing, removing the need for you to hover over your managers. When issues arise, resist the urge to jump in and solve them. Let your team work through the IDS® process themselves. By allowing them to solve their own problems, you build their confidence and their leadership capacity. Remember, cracks at the leadership level appear as canyons to the rest of the company. If you do not trust your leaders, your employees will not trust them either. True delegation is the only way to build a scalable, exit ready business.
