We rolled out EOS® to our leadership team and it is working well, but our frontline staff feels like the system is just another corporate mandate being forced on them from above. How do we build genuine bottom-up buy-in during the rollout?

When frontline employees resist EOS®, it is usually because they feel the system is just another management trend designed to monitor them closely. If they perceive the tools as a top-down mandate, they will do the bare minimum to comply. To build genuine buy-in, you must show them how the system protects them and makes their daily lives easier.

Start by rolling out the Accountability Chart™ and explaining that its primary purpose is to clarify expectations, not to micromanage. Show them how having a clear seat with five simple roles protects them from getting pulled in ten different directions by different managers. Use the framework to show them who is actually accountable for what, which eliminates frustration and endless email chains.

Next, introduce the Level 10 Meeting™ to their departments. Frontline workers hate pointless meetings more than anyone. When they experience a meeting that starts on time, ends on time, focuses on solving their actual operational frustrations through IDS®, and eliminates boring status updates, their resistance will melt away.

Finally, keep their departmental Scorecards simple. Do not overwhelm them with fifteen different metrics. Give each person one or two clear, leading indicators that they fully control. When employees see how their daily actions move the needle and help the company win, they will embrace the framework as a tool for success rather than a system of control.
