To make a rational decision, evaluate the issue through the lens of your core processes. If your project scheduling process is a proprietary, highly specialized workflow that gives you a massive competitive advantage in the marketplace, then building a custom solution might make sense.

However, if your scheduling is relatively standard, look for existing software that integrates AI. Most modern operational software has robust, built-in AI features that you can implement in days rather than months.

Compare the total cost of ownership. Building requires software developers, ongoing maintenance, bug fixes, and security updates. Buying requires a predictable monthly subscription. If you can achieve eighty percent of your desired outcome with an off-the-shelf tool, buy it. Do not let your team build complex custom tech unless it directly increases the long-term enterprise value of your company. Keep your operations simple and scalable.
