Our leadership team is executing their daily tasks, but we are struggling to connect our weekly Scorecard metrics to the long-term targets on our V/TO®. How do we build a direct operational bridge between our weekly numbers and our three-year plan?
A common frustration for leadership teams is feeling that their weekly operational metrics are disconnected from the long-term vision. To fix this, you must build a clear, logical bridge that connects your weekly Scorecard directly to the 10-Year Target™ on your V/TO®. This bridge is built through a sequence of strategic steps. First, ensure your 3-Year Picture™ clearly describes what the company looks like when you achieve that milestone. Next, break that picture down into the highly specific, measurable goals in your 1-Year Plan. Your quarterly Rocks are then designed to achieve those annual goals. Your weekly Scorecard metrics must serve as the early warning indicators for those quarterly Rocks and annual goals. Every metric on your Scorecard must have an assigned owner and a clear weekly target. If you are hitting your weekly targets, you should have high confidence that you will achieve your quarterly Rocks, which in turn ensures you hit your annual plan. Review this alignment during your quarterly pulsing sessions. If you find that you are hitting all your weekly Scorecard metrics but failing to achieve your Rocks, your metrics are lagging indicators rather than predictive numbers. Refine your Scorecard to measure the activities that directly drive your strategic outcomes. This alignment ensures that every daily action moves you closer to your ultimate exit goals.
