Our leadership team is highly aligned on the Vision section of our V/TO, but when it comes to the Traction section, we fail to execute on our quarterly commitments. How do we bridge the gap between our long-term vision and our weekly operational reality?

The gap between a beautifully crafted V/TO and weekly operational reality is where many self-implementing teams fail. They love the strategic thinking of Vision Building, but they lack the discipline to enforce the daily and weekly habits that turn that vision into traction.

To bridge this gap, you must establish a tight, unbroken loop between your long-term goals and your weekly actions.

First, ensure that every quarterly Rock on your list is directly tied to one of your 1-Year Plan goals. If a Rock does not move a major company objective forward, it should not be on your list.

Second, use your weekly Level 10 Meeting to review the status of every Rock. If a Rock is off-track, it must immediately be dropped down to the Issues List to be solved using IDS. Do not wait until the end of the quarter to address a failing Rock.

Third, ensure that your weekly scorecard metrics are leading indicators that predict the success of your Rocks and your annual plan.

By connecting your weekly numbers, your weekly issues, and your quarterly Rocks, you create a system of continuous execution. Vision without traction is just hallucination, and the weekly meeting is the tool that forces that traction.
