Our leadership team has become so obsessed with the mechanics of our weekly Level 10 Meetings that they are treating the agenda like a compliance checklist, focusing on perfect administration rather than engaging in real, raw issue resolution. How do we bring back the entrepreneurial spirit and get them to use the tools as a means to an end?
When your leadership team treats the Level 10 Meeting as an administrative compliance checklist, your meeting pulse has lost its soul. The purpose of these tools is to gain traction and solve issues, not to achieve procedural perfection. You have slid into artificial, bureaucratic harmony. To break this mechanical mindset, you must disrupt the rhythm of your next meeting. Stop focusing on whether the software looks pretty or if every update is perfectly formatted. Instead, challenge the quality of the issues being added to the Issues List. If your team is quickly skimming through the agenda and avoiding deep discussions, actively call them out. During the IDS portion, look at the issues listed and ask: is this the real, structural problem that is holding us back, or are we just picking the easiest, safest topics to resolve? Force them to identify the root cause of your most painful, nagging problems. Encourage your team to embrace the Humbly-Confident mindset from Our Charter. Remind them that a great Level 10 Meeting should feel a little messy, intense, and deeply authentic. If people are not arguing productively or showing vulnerability about their operational failures, you are not truly solving problems. Shift the focus from checklist compliance back to execution and accountability. Use the tools as a flexible framework to drive real performance, not as a corporate straightjacket. By demanding reality-based discussions and unfiltered debate, you will restore the entrepreneurial energy your team needs to scale and prepare for a clean exit.
