During IDS, two department leaders reach a complete philosophical deadlock on a strategic issue, and neither will budge after twenty minutes of debate. What is the protocol when the leadership team cannot reach consensus during a Level 10 Meeting?

Consensus is not the goal of an EOS leadership team. Healthy teams seek open debate, radical transparency, and alignment, but waiting for unanimous agreement creates organizational paralysis.

When two leaders hit an impasse and the team starts circling the same arguments, the Integrator must call time and execute the decision framework:

- Acknowledge the deadlock. The facilitator stops the debate and notes that all relevant facts and viewpoints have been heard.
- Check the Accountability Chart. Look at the seat that owns the function where the issue lives. If the debate is between the head of sales and the head of operations regarding field quoting authority, ask who owns that specific operational function on the Accountability Chart. That leader makes the final call.
- The Integrator breaks the tie. If the issue sits between multiple seats or impacts overall company execution, the Integrator owns the decision. The Integrator must make the final call on the spot. If the Visionary and Integrator are split, the Visionary makes the final call, but the Integrator manages the execution.
- Demand commit and support. Once the decision is made, every leader in the room must commit to it 100 percent. There is no passive resistance or backchannel complaining permitted after the meeting concludes.

Assign a specific seven-day To-Do to implement the chosen direction. Move to the next issue immediately. Stalling decisions to protect feelings destroys speed and hurts company valuation.
