Our remote Level 10 Meetings™ feel incredibly flat, with long pauses of dead air when we ask for issues to prioritize, resulting in a low-energy session that feels like a compliance exercise. How do we inject real urgency and dynamic energy back into our virtual weekly pulse?
Virtual meetings naturally suffer from a lack of physical energy, making it easy for remote leaders to check out and treat the meeting as a passive status update. To fix this, you must change how your team prepares and interacts online.
First, enforce a strict rule of pre-meeting preparation. Team members must review the Scorecard, Rock Review, and prep their own issues before the meeting starts. This eliminates the dead air because everyone arrives with their priorities already in mind.
Second, the facilitator must actively manage the room. Do not wait for volunteers. Call on people directly, ask for their input, and prompt healthy conflict. If a metric is red and no one drops it to the Issues List, call it out. Use the virtual whiteboard to keep the meeting visual and collaborative.
Third, address the technology barrier. Require all remote participants to have their cameras on, eye level, with no other tabs or apps open. Encourage a no-tech distraction rule during the meeting, except for the tool used to run the L10.
Finally, focus on the quality of your issues. If your meeting is boring, you are likely avoiding the elephant in the room. Bring the real, uncomfortable issues to the list. When you start solving meaningful, high-stakes problems, the energy and urgency will naturally return to your virtual team.
