Our leadership team has started arriving at our Level 10 Meetings with a blank Issues List, claiming that because our scorecard is green and our Rocks are on track, we have absolutely nothing to solve. How do we break this dangerous complacency and find the hidden issues that are stalling our growth?
A blank Issues List is never a sign of a perfect business; it is a sign of a leadership team that is blind, scared, or complacent. In any growing, dynamic organization, there are always things that can be improved, streamlined, or prepared for future scale. If your scorecard is green and your Rocks are on track, your targets are likely too low, or you are ignoring long-term strategic threats.
To break this complacency, the Integrator must push the team to look deeper. Start by challenging your current scorecard metrics. If you are consistently hitting your goals, ask if those goals are actually driving the business forward or if you are simply playing it safe. Look at your V/TO® and your 3-Year Picture. Ask the team: "What is the biggest operational bottleneck holding us back from doubling our capacity next year?"
You can also make it a rule that every leader must bring at least one issue to the meeting. An issue is not always a problem; it can be an opportunity, a process that needs optimization, or an ideas list for running AI-powered operations. By forcing the team to identify areas for growth, you prevent operational stagnation and maintain a high-traction culture.
