Our Visionary wants to build big and bypass lengthy procedural steps to launch new products, while our Integrator insists on thorough testing and legal reviews, stalling our momentum. How do we balance this technocratic engineering drive with risk management in our weekly EOS® meetings?
Friction between a Visionary's desire to move fast and an Integrator's focus on structure is healthy, provided it is managed constructively. To balance these competing forces, you must establish clear operational boundaries within your weekly meetings.
Start by understanding the conative profiles of both leaders. A Visionary typically has a high Quick Start score on the Kolbe Index, driving them to innovate and build big. An Integrator often has a high Follow Thru score, naturally seeking to systematize and manage risk.
Instead of letting this friction stall your execution, use your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ to channel these energies productively. When a new product idea is introduced, do not let it derail your current quarterly Rocks. Place it on the long-term Issues List on the V/TO®.
During your quarterly planning sessions, evaluate the opportunity against your Core Focus and strategic goals. If the team decides to move forward, assign a specific Rock to scope the project.
This Rock must have clear milestones that satisfy both the need for speed and the need for risk management. By establishing this clear operational filter, you allow the Visionary to drive innovation while giving the Integrator the structure needed to protect the business.
