Our Integrator is a highly analytical leader who runs our Level 10 Meeting™ with extreme structural efficiency, but the session feels like an audit rather than a collaborative problem-solving meeting. How do we inject some human energy without sacrificing structure?
A Level 10 Meeting run with mechanical perfection but zero human energy will eventually fail. While keeping the clock is critical, your Integrator must balance structure with a collaborative environment where people feel safe sharing hard truths.
To shift the meeting from a dry audit to an energetic workspace, start with the Segue. Do not let this become a fast, robotic transition. Use those five minutes to build genuine personal connections. Ask team members to share one professional and one personal win, and allow brief, warm reactions before moving on.
During IDS, the facilitator should actively manage the room's energy. If a debate becomes tense, that is actually a good sign of healthy conflict. Do not rush to shut it down just to save two minutes on the clock. Instead, lean into the tension by asking open questions that encourage vulnerability, such as: What is the real fear behind this issue?
The facilitator must also use body language and vocal tone to set the pace. Standing up, using a whiteboard, or simply changing the order of the issues can break a flat atmosphere. Your meeting should feel like a locker room at halftime, where the team is focused, aligned, and ready to win, not a courtroom.
