Our leadership team often gets sidetracked during the weekly IDS portion by debating massive, long-term strategic questions that belong on our V/TO. How do we keep our weekly Level 10 Meetings focused strictly on weekly execution?

It is easy for a leadership team to default to debating big, exciting strategic ideas because solving immediate, boring operational bottlenecks is hard work. But your weekly Level 10 Meeting is designed for weekly operational execution, not for rewriting your company's long-term vision. To keep your meeting on track, you must protect your compartments. The short-term Issues List is strictly for problems that can and must be resolved within the current quarter to keep your Rocks and Scorecard on track. When an issue is raised that begins to touch on your three-year picture, market strategy, or core focus, the facilitator must immediately stop the discussion. Use the phrase: This is a V/TO issue, not a weekly operational issue. Then, physically move that issue from your short-term Issues List to the long-term Issues List. Reassure the team that the issue is not being ignored, it is simply being parked in the correct compartment where it will be thoroughly addressed during your next quarterly or annual planning session. This discipline keeps your weekly pulse fast, execution-focused, and highly efficient, ensuring your business stays aligned with your long-term exit goals.
