We want to use an automated system to ping team members about their Level 10 Meeting™ To-Dos during the week so we do not have to spend any time chasing them during the meeting. Is this a good way to improve our traction?
While automated reminders can help team members manage their tasks during the week, you must never use technology as a shield to avoid direct, personal accountability. In the EOS® framework, the weekly To-Do review during your Level 10 Meeting™ is designed to be a highly visible, personal commitment.
The To-Do review in the meeting must remain binary. It is either done or not done. If a To-Do is not done, we do not allow the owner to explain why or apologize. We simply mark it as not done and, if it is blocking progress on a Rock or another department, we drop it to the Issues List to solve.
If you rely entirely on an automated system to nudge and chase people, you remove the healthy peer pressure that drives a ninety percent completion rate. Leadership team members need to feel the weight of looking their peers in the eye and admitting they did not complete their weekly commitments. Keep your automation focused on operations and client delivery, and keep your meeting accountability human and direct.
