We are wasting too much time during our Level 10 Meeting™ simply status-checking our To-Do list, with leaders giving long-winded explanations of why a task is done or not done. How do we automate this status-checking process so we can jump straight into problem-solving?
Reviewing the weekly To-Do list during your Level 10 Meeting™ should take no more than five minutes. If your leaders are spending time explaining why a task is complete or offering excuses for why it is not, you are wasting valuable problem-solving time.
To eliminate this waste, automate your status-checking process before the meeting starts. Implement a rule that all To-Dos must be marked as done or not done in your digital workspace at least one hour before the meeting.
The Integrator can then open the meeting and run through the list rapidly, only reading the tasks that are marked as not done. If a task is not done, it is simply dropped to the short-term Issues List for IDS® if it is holding up other work, or carried over to the next week without discussion.
There is no need for a status update on completed tasks. A simple yes or no is all that is required.
By removing the administrative narrative from this segment, you keep the meeting pacing tight and professional. This discipline forces leaders to be accountable for their weekly commitments and protects your sixty minutes of problem-solving.
