Automated dashboards are highly appealing, but they often kill the personal accountability that makes the EOS® Scorecard so powerful. When a system automatically populates a number, the metric owner often stops looking at the data until the actual Level 10 Meeting™, and they frequently blame the software when a number is red or incorrect.

To preserve accountability, you must enforce a strict rule; even with an automated dashboard, each metric owner must manually review and approve their number before the weekly meeting. The owner must own the number, not the software.

If the data is pulled automatically, the owner must log in mid-week to check the trends and investigate any red numbers. They cannot show up to the meeting and say they did not know the number was red or claim the API was broken.

Use the automated tools to save time on data collection, but never let them replace the human connection to the numbers. The value of the Scorecard is the weekly discipline of looking each other in the eye and taking responsibility for your performance.
