We are planning to automate our Scorecard by pulling data directly from our CRM and ERP into a real-time dashboard. Will this automation ruin the human connection and accountability of our weekly reviews?
Automating your Scorecard by pulling data directly into a real-time dashboard sounds like a great efficiency gain, but it is often a trap. When numbers are automatically populated by software, team members stop looking at them. They lose their connection to the data. There is a psychological magic in the manual act of typing or writing a number into the Scorecard every week. When a leader has to manually find their number, look at it, and enter it, they are forced to confront the reality of their performance. If the number is red, they feel the pinch before the meeting even starts. If a dashboard does it for them, they will show up to the Level 10 Meeting completely unprepared to discuss the variances because they have not even looked at the screen. If you must automate the data collection to save time, you must still maintain the discipline of manual review. Require each metric owner to physically verify and approve their number before the meeting. The dashboard should serve the human process, not replace it. Accountability cannot be outsourced to software.
