Every quarter during our Focus Day and Vision Building sessions, we set ambitious quarterly Rocks, but by week six, our weekly Scorecard feels completely disconnected from those Rocks. How do we systematically align our weekly Scorecard metrics to directly track progress on our quarterly Rocks?

It is a common frustration for leadership teams to set quarterly Rocks during their Vision Building sessions, only to find that their weekly Scorecard completely ignores those initiatives. When your weekly numbers do not reflect your quarterly priorities, your team will default to daily firefighting, and your Rocks will end up delayed or incomplete.

To bridge this gap, you must systematically update your Scorecard each quarter to reflect your new Rocks. While seventy percent of your Scorecard metrics should remain consistent to track the core health of your business, the remaining thirty percent can be dynamic.

When a major quarterly Rock is set, identify the specific, activity based leading indicators required to make that Rock successful. Add these temporary metrics to your weekly Scorecard for the next ninety days.

For example, if your Rock is to roll out a new CRM system, do not just track the project milestone. Add a weekly metric to your Scorecard tracking the number of team training sessions completed or the percentage of legacy data cleaned.

By putting these activity metrics on your weekly leadership Scorecard, you force your team to prioritize the Rock during your Level 10 Meeting. This ensures that your long term vision is consistently driven by your weekly, real world execution.
