How do you handle a situation during our quarterly sessions where the leadership team wants to take the company in one operational direction but I, as the majority owner, want to steer it toward a completely different exit path?

This is a common point of tension, especially when a business owner is secretly planning an exit while the leadership team is focused purely on day-to-day scaling. When we sit down in the session room, my role as your implementer is to facilitate absolute alignment. I do not take sides, but I will force the brutal facts to the surface so the team can address them head-on.

The foundation of resolving this tension lies in the V/TO®. If you, as the owner, have a specific exit timeline or legacy objective in mind, that vision must be clearly articulated and agreed upon on your V/TO®. We cannot have a leadership team rowing in one direction while the captain is secretly steering toward a different port.

During our session, we will utilize the IDS® tool to process this misalignment. We will clarify your long-term goals and help the team understand how their operational decisions must support that eventual transition. If a leader simply cannot align with the owner's ultimate exit vision, it becomes a GWC™ issue on the Accountability Chart. By maintaining total transparency in the room, we ensure that every operational decision and quarterly Rock directly serves the primary objectives of the business and its shareholders.
