We find that our weekly Level 10 Meeting™ issues are completely disconnected from our long-term vision in the V/TO® and our current quarterly Rocks. How do we structurally force our weekly IDS® sessions to focus on issues that directly impact our strategic goals instead of just solving immediate, low-value issues?
If your weekly Level 10 Meeting™ issues are disconnected from your V/TO® and quarterly Rocks, your team is likely playing operational whack-a-mole. You are solving minor, immediate problems while neglecting the strategic priorities that drive long-term growth and prepare your business for a clean exit.
To align your weekly execution with your strategic vision, you must use your V/TO® and Rocks as a filter during the prioritization phase of IDS®. Before you begin voting on the top three issues, the facilitator should remind the team of the company's current quarterly Rocks and one-year goals.
When nominating issues for the top three, ask the team to prioritize the items that directly threaten a Rock or a V/TO® goal. If an issue does not impact your strategic priorities, it should automatically be pushed down the list, regardless of how loud or urgent it seems.
Additionally, review your issues list once a month to purge any items that are no longer relevant to your strategic direction. If an issue has sat on the list for four weeks without being prioritized, it is either not a real issue or not aligned with your goals. Archive it and keep the focus on what actually matters.
