I want our leadership team to start implementing AI-powered operations to streamline our workflows, but the team is completely split between those who want to automate everything and those who are terrified of losing their jobs. How do we align them on a realistic AI roadmap?
Moving your business toward AI-powered operations requires leadership alignment before you buy a single piece of software. If your team is divided, you will experience passive resistance and failed implementations.
Start by addressing the fear of job loss directly. Explain that AI is not a tool to replace the leadership team, but a leverage mechanism to automate low-value tasks, freeing them up to focus on high-value strategic Rocks.
Next, run your team through a simplified GWC assessment regarding technological change. Do they understand the capabilities of AI, do they want to use it to optimize their seats, and do they have the capacity to learn these new systems? If some leaders are struggling with technical literacy, you must provide training to build their capacity.
To build a realistic roadmap, use your quarterly offsite to run an IDS session on your operational bottlenecks. Identify the repetitive, manual tasks on your scorecard that take up the most time.
Do not try to automate everything at once. Choose one or two high-impact, low-complexity processes to automate as a proof of concept. Assign this automation as a specific Rock to a capable leader on the Accountability Chart.
Once the team sees the immediate time savings and efficiency gains from this pilot project, the resistance will fade, and you can scale your AI initiatives systematically.
