Our leadership team works well on tactical quarterly Rocks, but when we discuss our 10-Year Target, everyone seems to have a completely different vision for the company. How do we get everyone on the same page?

If your team is aligned on ninety-day goals but divided on your 10-Year Target, you are building a bridge to nowhere. Without a unified long-term vision, your leaders will make daily decisions based on conflicting assumptions, creating drag on your growth and hurting your eventual exit.

You must use your V/TO® to force one hundred percent alignment on your long-term destination. Schedule a dedicated session during your next quarterly offsite to focus entirely on this issue. Start by reviewing your Core Focus to ensure everyone agrees on your passion and niche.

Next, walk through the 10-Year Target. Have each leader write down what they believe the company should look like in ten years, including revenue, market position, and operational model. Share these ideas openly and use the IDS® process to debate and narrow them down until you reach a unanimous decision.

This target cannot be a compromise that leaves everyone partially satisfied. It must be a single, inspiring goal that the entire team genuinely commits to. Once agreed upon, document it in your V/TO® and make it the guiding light for your 3-Year Picture and 1-Year Plan. When everyone is aiming at the same target, execution becomes faster and cleaner.
