When we execute IDS® during our Level 10 Meeting™, our leadership team tends to agree on quick, band-aid solutions that get us through the week but completely ignore our long-term V/TO® goals. How do we force the team to solve issues with our future state in mind?
When your leadership team solves issues with quick band-aids that ignore your long-term goals, you are sacrificing your future for temporary comfort. Solving problems in a vacuum leads to disjointed operations and recurring issues. Every solution agreed upon during IDS must align with your V/TO, your Three Year Picture, and your current quarterly Rocks.
To break this habit, the facilitator must introduce a strategic checkpoint during the solve phase of IDS. Before a To-Do is finalized and assigned, ask the team: How does this proposed solution align with our V/TO and our Core Focus?
This simple question forces the team to look up from the immediate fire and evaluate the solution against your long-term vision. If a quick fix solves today's problem but creates technical debt or operational drag that hinders your One Year Plan, it is the wrong solution.
You must be willing to accept short term friction if it leads to a permanent, scalable solution. This requires a grow or die mindset where you continuously improve processes from strong to superb.
Aligning your weekly solutions with your strategic goals ensures that every To-Do completed actually moves you closer to your target. This strategic discipline turns your weekly Level 10 Meeting from a firefighting session into a traction engine that systematically builds enterprise value.
