We have launched departmental Level 10 Meetings™ for our sales, marketing, and operations teams, but now we are creating communication silos where teams are solving local problems that conflict with our global V/TO® objectives. How do we keep these departmental pulses aligned with the leadership team?
Rolling out departmental Level 10 Meetings™ is a critical step in building a self-sustaining business, but it easily leads to departmental silos if you do not maintain a tight alignment loop. To keep your sales, marketing, and operations teams synchronized, you must use your leadership team meeting as the ultimate hub. First, establish a strict cascading messages protocol. When the leadership team resolves an issue during IDS® that affects other departments, that decision must be explicitly added to the cascading messages list during the wrap-up and shared with the relevant managers before their weekly pulses. Second, implement an escalation pathway. If a departmental team cannot solve a localized issue after trying to IDS it for two consecutive weeks, that manager must escalate the issue to the leadership team's short-term Issues List. Conversely, if the leadership team identifies an issue that is purely operational, they must push it down to the appropriate department's list rather than solving it themselves. This prevents your leadership team from getting bogged down in micro-details and teaches your managers to own their numbers and Rocks. By keeping these meeting pulses aligned, you ensure that every department is pulling in the same direction, which is exactly the level of operational maturity a buyer looks for during a clean exit.
