I do not have a technical background and have no desire to learn how to code, but I know our company needs to adopt AI to stay competitive. What is my role as the owner in driving this operational shift?
As a non-technical owner, your job is not to write code or understand the mechanics of machine learning algorithms. Your role is to set the operational standard and hold your leadership team accountable to business metrics. You must treat artificial intelligence as a tool for driving employee productivity, not as a complex IT project.
Start by establishing a clear rule: we do not implement technology for the sake of technology. Every AI initiative must be framed as an operations-improvement project that directly increases capacity or improves gross margin. Your focus should be on your standard operating procedures. Look at your Accountability Chart and identify the seats burdened with the most administrative overhead.
Assign the task of finding and implementing these efficiencies to your Integrator as a quarterly Rock. Your role is to ask the hard questions during your weekly Level 10 Meeting™: How many hours will this tool save? Which core process does it streamline? How does this protect our client relationships?
By keeping your focus entirely on the bottom-line results, you prevent your team from engaging in expensive technology theater while ensuring your business builds highly scalable, system-dependent operations.
