We want to update our Accountability Chart to reflect our transition to AI-powered operations, but we are struggling to define the boundaries between human accountability and software execution. How do we represent this balance on our chart?
When you transition to AI-powered operations, the fundamental rule of the Accountability Chart remains unchanged: every seat must have a human name in it. You cannot place software, APIs, or AI agents in a seat on your chart. Instead, you must redefine the roles of the human beings who oversee these technological systems. The human in the seat is not necessarily doing all the manual labor anymore; they are accountable for the outputs and performance of the AI tools. For example, if you automate your lead generation, your Marketing Coordinator seat does not disappear. Instead, the roles under that seat change from manually scraping leads to managing the AI lead-generation platform, auditing the data quality, and optimizing the prompt sequences. The accountability is still one hundred percent human. When you design these updated seats, ensure the person in the seat has the GWC™ to manage the technology. If they do not understand how the software works or cannot diagnose errors, they lack the Capacity for the seat. By restructuring your Accountability Chart around human-led, AI-assisted roles, you build a lean and highly scalable business that is incredibly attractive to buyers during an exit.
