We are redesigning our operations to incorporate AI and automation to prepare for an exit, but my leadership team is overwhelmed by who should lead this transition. How do we restructure our Accountability Chart to assign ownership of AI-powered process design without overloading our existing team?
Transitioning to AI-powered operations is a major strategic move, but it will stall if nobody owns the execution. To prevent this, you must place the ownership of AI-powered process design directly on your Accountability Chart. Do not make the mistake of creating a separate, isolated technology department that operates in a vacuum.
The primary owner of system integration is typically the Integrator. However, if your Integrator lacks the technical capacity to design automated workflows, you must identify who on your leadership team has the GWC for this specific responsibility. You can assign this as a major role under an existing seat, such as operations or finance, or create a specialized, temporary sub-seat that reports directly to the Integrator.
The absolute rule of the Accountability Chart is that the person who owns a process must also own the tools used to run it. If your sales leader wants to automate lead scoring, they must own the AI tool that does it. Keep the technology aligned with the functional seats. This ensures your AI transition is driven by business results rather than a desire to play with new technology.
