We want to appoint someone to oversee our AI automation and operational systems, but our head of technology and head of operations are already fighting over who should own this seat. How do we structure this on our Accountability Chart™ without triggering a territorial turf war?
Territorial turf wars over new technologies like artificial intelligence are common when roles are poorly defined. To resolve this friction, you must separate the strategic ownership of the technology from the daily execution of the automated workflows, using your Accountability Chart™ as the ultimate blueprint.
Start by analyzing the GWC™ of both your head of technology and your head of operations. Managing an AI integration requires a unique conative drive. It requires the technological capability to build systems and the operational understanding of how those systems impact customer delivery.
To resolve the overlap, split the responsibilities clearly. Create a new seat on the Accountability Chart™ for an AI Operations Specialist, or clearly define the accountabilities under one of the existing seats. The head of technology should own the platform selection, security, and technical infrastructure. The head of operations must own the process design, operational training, and scorecard metrics that measure the efficiency of the automation.
Ensure this structure is detailed in a signed operational Charter. This covenant establishes how the two seats must collaborate and communicate, removing any ambiguity. By defining clear boundaries and focusing on company-wide objectives rather than personal preferences, you will eliminate the turf war and build a scalable operational foundation.
