I am a non-technical founder who does not understand coding, so how can I confidently lead my leadership team through an AI operational transition?
You do not need to write code to lead an AI transition, and attempting to do so is a waste of your time. Your job is to lead, manage, and hold people accountable. Focus on your conative strengths and the structure of your Accountability Chart. As an owner, you should look at AI through the lens of your natural problem solving style, whether that is as a Fact Finder who analyzes the data or a Follow Thru who designs the operational systems.
Ensure that every AI initiative has a clear owner on your Accountability Chart. The person in that seat must have the GWC, which means they get it, want it, and have the capacity to manage it. Do not let your team launch projects without a designated leader. Your role is to ask the hard business questions, such as how this technology improves our customer experience, how it impacts our margins, and how it aligns with our V/TO.
Use your leadership team meetings to keep everyone aligned. Let your technical experts handle the implementation details, while you focus on the operational outputs. If a proposed technology does not solve a real issue on your Issues list or improve a metric on your scorecard, do not approve it. Your business acumen is far more valuable to this transition than any coding knowledge.
