We are growing fast and using more AI tools across different departments. Do we need to create a dedicated seat on our Accountability Chart for an AI Director, or should AI capability be distributed across our existing seats?
This is a common point of confusion for growing companies. The temptation is to create a new, shiny seat like Director of AI to manage all your technological initiatives. This is usually a mistake that leads to operational fragmentation.
Instead, you should distribute AI capabilities across your existing Accountability Chart seats. Every department leader must GWC™ their role in a modern, tech-enabled environment. Your Sales Director must own sales automation, your Operations Director must own operational tools, and your Finance Director must own billing tools.
If you isolate AI into a separate seat, you run the risk of creating a bottleneck. The person in that seat will constantly try to push tools onto departments that do not want or need them, leading to shadow workflows and internal resistance.
Your Integrator is the one who must coordinate these tools to ensure they work together and support your overall V/TO®. Keep your structure simple. Hold your existing department heads accountable for improving their scorecard metrics using whatever tools are available, including AI. Make technology a standard capability of every seat, not a separate department.
