We are planning our headcount on the V/TO® and cannot decide whether to spend our budget training our existing, loyal team on AI tools or hiring expensive outside prompt engineers and AI operators. How do we use the GWC™ filter to determine if upskilling our current team is a viable path?

To make a smart headcount decision, run your current team members through the GWC™ filter on your Accountability Chart. Do not make the mistake of hiring expensive outside AI specialists who do not understand your industry, your clients, or your core values, unless you are certain your current team cannot adapt.

Start with the G filters: do your current employees truly Get it? This means they understand the potential of AI to enhance their work, grasp how the systems function at a basic conceptual level, and see how their roles will evolve. Next, do they Want it? Do they show genuine curiosity, take the initiative to play with these tools, and want to learn how to operate them?

Finally, assess the C: do they have the Capacity to do it? Capacity is not just about natural intelligence; it is about time and conative wiring. If your team is already running at one hundred percent capacity just keeping up with their daily tasks, they do not have the physical time to learn a new way of working. You must restructure their weekly workload or offload administrative tasks to give them the breathing room to upskill.

If your team passes the GWC™ filter with three firm yeses, invest heavily in training them. They already understand your business and your culture, which is far harder to teach than prompt engineering. If they fail the GWC™ filter, you must look outside the organization.
