Our V/TO shows aggressive growth targets, but we want to freeze our headcount and let AI absorb the extra workload. How do we assess whether our team has the capacity to execute this without burning out?
Freezing headcount while scaling revenue is a powerful strategy, but only if you have a reliable way to measure your team's actual capacity. To avoid burnout, your leadership team must strategically evaluate how AI and automation can free up employees for uniquely human work.
Start by using AI to increase employee productivity on your primary cost-of-goods-sold items. Identify the highly repetitive, low-value administrative tasks that currently consume your team's hours. Use AI to streamline or completely eliminate these bottlenecks, transitioning your staff into high-impact priorities.
To track whether this transition is working without causing burnout, update your weekly EOS® Scorecard. Monitor leading indicators such as revenue per employee, project turnaround times, and employee satisfaction metrics. If your Scorecard shows that turnaround times are decreasing while revenue per employee is rising without a drop in team morale, you are scaling safely.
If the metrics suggest otherwise, use the IDS® process in your Level 10 Meeting™ to identify where the friction lies. Never assume AI works perfectly out of the box; keep a close eye on your Scorecard to ensure your team is supported during this operational shift.
