We are redesigning our Accountability Chart to leverage AI-powered workflows, but some of my long-term leaders are dragging their feet because they fear these automated systems will make their departments, and their leadership seats, redundant. How do we handle this capability shift?

Fear of redundancy is a powerful demotivator. When your leadership team resists technology because they are protecting their turf, they are putting their personal interests ahead of the company's growth and eventual exit valuation.

To address this, you must separate the seat from the person. Use the Accountability Chart to show how AI-powered workflows will change the roles within each department. Explain that automation does not mean redundancy; it means elevating their seats to focus on higher-value activities.

Evaluate your leaders using the GWC tool in this new context. Do they have the capacity to lead an AI-driven department? Capacity now includes the ability to manage automated workflows and analyze data rather than just managing manual tasks.

If a leader gets it and wants it, but lacks the capacity, provide the training and support they need to level up. Show them how automated systems will free them from tactical firefighting, allowing them to focus on strategic initiatives.

If they simply refuse to adapt or continue to drag their feet, you have a capability issue. You cannot let a leader's fear hold back your operational evolution. If they cannot or will not GWC their newly designed seat, you must replace them with someone who can.
