Our leadership team is deadlocked over our operational automation strategy. Half want to hire expensive external AI consultants to overhaul our processes, while the other half wants to upskill our existing team slowly. How do we break this deadlock?
This deadlock is stalling your progress toward a high-value exit. To resolve this, you must use the IDS® process to evaluate both paths against your V/TO® and your exit timeline. You cannot afford to make a purely emotional decision.
If your goal is a clean exit within the next two to three years, you do not have the time to slowly upskill an unproven team. You need speed, efficiency, and proven systems. In this scenario, bringing in specialized external experts to build your AI-powered operational foundation is the smartest move.
However, you must ensure that these external consultants do not just hand over a black box. Part of their scope of work must include documenting the new automated processes and training your leadership team to run them. Your leadership team must own the tools once they are built.
If your exit is further out, a hybrid approach works best. Use external experts to architect the initial infrastructure, but assign specific internal leaders to own the integration as their quarterly Rocks. This ensures you build internal capability while still moving at the speed of the market.
