We want to use AI to automate our core workflows, but our processes are still poorly documented. Do we have to fully document our manual processes under the Process Component first, or can we build AI agents and automation directly into our messy existing workflows?
Attempting to build AI agents or automation on top of poorly documented, messy workflows is a recipe for operational disaster. You cannot automate a process that you do not fully understand or control. Doing so simply allows you to generate errors at a much faster rate. Under the Process Component of EOS®, you must first document your core processes using the simple 3-Step Process Documenter. This means identifying the major steps, documenting them at a high level so they are followed by all, and ensuring the baseline process is clean, predictable, and repeatable. Once you have a documented, stable process, you can objectively identify the bottlenecks and administrative tasks that are ripe for AI integration. Look for repetitive, high-volume steps that do not require human empathy or complex situational judgment. By simplifying and documenting your processes first, you ensure that your AI deployment actually solves an operational issue rather than creating new, unpredictable bugs. Your processes must be clean before they can be automated.
