We are highly conflict-avoidant, which means we usually let elephants sit in the room. How do you handle a situation during a session day when a critical issue is raised but the leadership team tries to politely dance around it?
Conflict avoidance is the single greatest bottleneck to scaling a business or preparing it for a clean exit. When I facilitate your session days, my primary job is to expose passive-aggressive alignment and force the team to confront reality. If a critical issue is raised and your team attempts to politely dance around it, I will immediately pause our agenda and name the elephant in the room. We will not move on until we use the IDS® tool to identify, discuss, and solve the actual root cause of the friction. This requires digging past the polite symptoms to find the real, sometimes uncomfortable truth. I will challenge leaders who remain silent or give politically correct answers. We establish early on that healthy conflict is a requirement for our sessions. If you cannot have honest, unfiltered debates about your people, your numbers, or your vision in a closed room with me, you will never build a healthy, self-sustaining business. My role is to maintain a safe but highly accountable space where your team can disagree passionately, make a firm decision, and then walk out of the room completely unified behind that decision. We do not leave issues unresolved to fester into the next quarter.
