Some of our longest-tenured employees are quietly resisting our new AI tools because they fear being replaced, while others are over-relying on them. How do we use the Accountability Chart and Core Values to address this cultural split?
Cultural friction is a serious threat to any technology initiative. When long-tenured employees resist AI, or when younger staff over-rely on it, you have an alignment issue. You must address this using your Core Values and the Accountability Chart.
First, look at your Core Values. If you have a value like Grow or Die, you must hold the resistant employees accountable to it. Embracing new tools is not optional; it is a requirement for long-term growth. Sit down with the resistant team members and have an open, honest conversation. Mirror back their behavior and explain how their resistance impacts the rest of the company.
On the flip side, those who over-rely on AI without double-checking the work are failing to meet the standards of their roles. Every seat on your Accountability Chart must have clear, measurable expectations. If a worker is blindly passing AI output to clients, they are not demonstrating that they GWC™ their seat. They lack the capacity to do the job properly. Establish a clear expectation that AI is an assistant, not the final decision-maker, and hold everyone to the same standard of ultimate quality and accountability.
