How does my role on the Accountability Chart change during the transition, and how do I prevent dropping the ball on my daily Rocks?
As you prepare for an exit, your seat on the Accountability Chart must undergo a radical transformation. You cannot simply drop your responsibilities overnight; you must systematically transition them while maintaining operational excellence.
First, look at your V/TO® and identify your long-term vision. To achieve this vision, you must transition from your operational seats into a purely strategic role, often moving from the Integrator seat to a pure Visionary seat, and eventually off the Accountability Chart entirely. This transition must be reflected in your quarterly Rocks. Your Rocks should not be focused on daily operations, but rather on transition milestones, such as training your successor and documenting key processes.
To prevent dropping the ball on your daily responsibilities, you must utilize the weekly Level 10 Meeting™. Use the IDS® process to systematically solve any handoff bottlenecks. If your successor is struggling with their new responsibilities, do not step back in and do the work for them. Instead, identify the root cause, discuss it openly, and solve it by adjusting their training or conative alignment.
By clearly defining this transition on the Accountability Chart, your team and your potential buyers will see a clear, structured path forward that does not rely on your daily presence.
