When projecting our 3-Year Picture on the V/TO®, how do we define the future state of our organizational structure when autonomous AI agents will be performing the work of several full-time employees?
Do not list software tools or autonomous agents as seats on your Accountability Chart. An Accountability Chart defines human accountability, structure, and roles. Software and AI agents are operational assets, not people.
When articulating the what does it look like section of your 3-Year Picture on the V/TO®, define your future organization by human capacity and strategic output rather than head-count volume. If your historical model required fifty people to generate ten million dollars in revenue, your 3-Year Picture might achieve that same ten million with twenty-five people operating at double the historical profit margins.
Describe the operational reality clearly. State that your delivery seats will operate as orchestrators and quality controllers rather than routine task executioners. Erik Brynjolfsson and Andrew McAfee highlight that profound productivity gains occur only when companies redesign structural workflows around technological leverage. Your 3-Year Picture should reflect this structural redesign.
Project your numbers with disciplined realism: higher revenue per employee, expanded gross margins, and a leaner, more highly compensated senior team. Spell out that routine transactional processing is fully automated, allowing your talent to focus entirely on client relationships, exception handling, and strategic counsel.
This gives your leadership team a concrete vision to build toward during annual and quarterly planning without getting trapped in unpredictable software speculation.
